Operational principle

How does OneFlow® work?

OneFlow® is not a water softener, but uses an innovative technology  that improves mains water quality by neutralising limescale. The media in the cartridge attract calcium and magnesium minerals in hard water and convert these into microscopic crystals. After formation, these microcrystals break down quickly due to the flow of water and are released as inert limescale particles. This means they no longer attach themselves to the surface. Stubborn limescale is thus eliminated in pipes, heating elements, taps, etc.

What are the advantages of OneFlow®?

OneFlow® is a sustainable and full-fledged alternative to a traditional water softener. The appliance offers a huge number of advantages in private homes as well as in commercial premises (catering establishments, sports clubs, swimming pools, camp sites, etc.). Here’s a list of all the advantages.

OneFlow® handles stubborn limescale without using salt and chemicals. It doesn’t need any electricity. In contrast to traditional water softeners, OneFlow® works entirely autonomously. This saves in consumption costs and also makes it much more sustainable. As no salt or chemicals are added, OneFlow® doesn’t need any rinsing, which means no unnecessary wastage of water. In short, the technology is a particularly sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative and that is considerably better for our planet.

OneFlow® is a compact device that’s easy to install. It should always be installed vertically and, depending on the type, it’s possible to install OneFlow® hanging or standing. OneFlow® doesn’t only prevent limescale from forming, it also deals with existing limescale deposits in your pipes and systems. This can considerably extend the service life of your appliances.

To make the most of this, we recommend that you rinse the water in your boiler after a year. Always follow the instructions on your central heating boiler for this. This keeps pipes and appliances in top condition so they’ll last for years.

OneFlow® only needs minimal maintenance. The cartridge or media need to be replaced every 2 or 3 years, depending on the type of appliance. Less limescale results in lower energy bills. This is because appliances and heating systems function better when they’re limescale free.

As all vital minerals including calcium and magnesium remain in the water, the water is healthier for human consumption than water treated with a traditional water softener, which no longer contains these minerals.

Sinks, taps and shower walls remain free of stubborn limescale deposits. This saves a huge amount of cleaning. Small stains may sometimes be left as a result of water evaporation.

These are easy to remove with a damp cloth or sponge. Soap and shampoo residues from water treated by OneFlow® are easier to rinse away than residues from untreated water.

The number of stains on washing up and in the dishwasher is considerably reduced. As soft limescale does still occur in the water, it is important to mention here that your dishwasher reservoir still needs salt. We recommend that you choose low-phosphate dishwasher products as these are the most suitable. They prevent the occurrence of stains and are also more environmentally-friendly. If you live in a hard water area, you should always use a rinsing agent

Why is OneFlow® a sustainable alternative to a traditional water softener?

If you want to avoid stubborn limescale in your pipes and on your shower walls and taps, but are also concerned about the environment, then the OneFlow® is certainly a solution for you. OneFlow® offers you a full-fledged and sustainable alternative to a traditional water softener. Our products are efficient in various respects, which means considerable savings for you. In contrast to a traditional water softener,

  1. OneFlow® doesn’t need electricity. The device works autonomously and therefore doesn’t need a power socket.
  2. OneFlow® doesn’t need any salt and chemicals to function. So you don’t need to remember to add salt to your device every month. This makes OneFlow® very maintenance-friendly. The cartridge or media that treat the limescale only need to be replaced once every 2 or 3 years, depending on the type of device you have selected.
  3. Traditional water softeners use a lot of drinking water for rinsing. Basically they rinse away the salt that is used to remove the limescale. This means that saltwater is discharged in the wastewater system. OneFlow® doesn’t require any rinsing, so there’s no unnecessary water consumption and it doesn’t generate any wastewater. Moreover, healthy minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain in your water.

How does OneFlow® differ from traditional water softeners or other alternatives?

Before we tell you how OneFlow® works compared with traditional water softeners and alternatives, it is important to know what hard water and limescale actually are.

Natural minerals such as calcium and magnesium are present in the ground and surface water. Hard water has a high level of these healthy minerals. The harder the water, the more these minerals are present in the water. Limescale can clog pipes and taps, affect water quality and significantly reduce the service life of electrical appliances. This is annoying as it leads to higher energy bills and electrical appliances need to be replaced more often. OneFlow® is the ideal solution for this. It is the most efficient and environmentally-friendly technology to prevent hard limescale.

Traditional water softeners remove the healthy minerals from hard water through ion exchange. Salt, electricity and a regular regeneration cycle are needed for this. In contrast to OneFlow®, this is not sustainable. These devices have a control valve, return flow, discharge pipe, water supply for regeneration, a brine tank and need space for storing the salt.

OneFlow® is not a water softener; it actually uses an innovative technology that improves mains water quality by neutralising limescale. The media in the cartridge attract calcium and magnesium minerals in hard water and convert these into microscopic crystals. After formation, these microcrystals break down quickly due to the flow of moving water and are released as inert limescale particles. This means they no longer attach themselves to the surface. Hard limescale is thus eliminated and pipes, heating elements, taps, etc. stay limescale free.

Does OneFlow® remove minerals from the water?

If you chose the OneFlow® limescale neutralisation system, you’re choosing for your health. OneFlow® does not remove any calcium and magnesium from drinking water. This means that all vital minerals remain in the water; minerals you need every day. The OneFlow+® limescale prevention & water filtration contains an integrated 20-micron carbon filter as well as the cartridge. This type does not only protect your pipes from limescale, it also ensures that your water is free from unpleasant odours and tastes. This carbon filter does not remove manganese, iron and other metals.

Are there additional energy costs associated with using OneFlow®?

No. In fact, in contrast to traditional water softeners, OneFlow® uses no electricity and this can result in considerable savings. Traditional water softeners remove vital minerals from hard water through ion exchange. This process doesn’t only need salt, it also requires regeneration or rinsing. This regeneration requires a time configuration, which requires electricity.

What is the service life of a OneFlow®?

The casing of a OneFlow® does not have a specific service life. To ensure that your product continues to perform at its best, it is important to replace the cartridge or media once every 2 to 3 years. You can do this very easily yourself. How often this needs to happen depends on the OneFlow® model you selected. The cartridge of the standard OFTWH-R and OFTWH versions need to be replaced once every two years. For commercial tank systems OF948-16-C & OF1054-20-D and the OneFlow+®, the media need to be replaced every three years. The small version, the OF110, needs a replacement once a year.

What can I expect from OneFlow®?

As OneFlow® is not a water softener but uses an innovative technology which improves mains water quality by neutralising hard limescale, soft and harmless limescale particles remain in your drinking water.

You’ll be able to observe this as white stains may be left on taps and other surfaces. However, these stains do not adhere to surfaces like stubborn limescale and can be removed easily with a damp cloth or sponge.
If you install OneFlow® during a renovation project, be aware that during the initial months after installation the water may temporarily appear milky in colour. This indicates an increase in limescale levels in the water as the soft and harmless limescale particles flow through your pipe system while also picking up any microscopic limescale particles that have been stuck in your pipes for years.

What factors should I take into account to achieve optimal OneFlow® performance?

There are various factors that need to be taken into account before you install OneFlow®:
Ensure that you connect the OneFlow® to a clean mains water supply.
OneFlow® can cope with a maximum hardness of 30 grains/514 ppm/28.8 D°/51.3 °f
Oil and H2S (hydrogen sulphide) should be removed in advance.
The water pressure may be between 1.03 and 6.9 bar. If a water pump needs to be installed, this should always be installed after the OneFlow®.

Excessive copper, iron and magnesium levels can damage the cartridge or media.

Installation

How is OneFlow® installed?

OneFlow® can be installed immediately after the water meter and connected to the cold water supply. It is important that the product is installed vertical, upright and level. Also make sure that there is sufficient free space. This will make it a lot easier for you to replace the cartridge or media. You should do this once every two or three years, depending on the type of device you purchased. After installation you’ll not need to worry about OneFlow® for a long time.

Do you want to connect the system to new copper pipes? PLEASE NOTE!
If copper levels are too high, this will negatively impact the cartridge or media performance in the OneFlow® and may result in the system not operating as it should. Of course, that’s something you don’t want, which is why you should install a bypass or remove the cartridge for four weeks and allow the system to rinse during this period before you start making optimal use of it. After the four weeks you can return the cartridge and enjoy all the advantages offered by OneFlow®.

Use OneFlow® in open systems/circuits where there is sufficient flow. OneFlow® performs best in open circuits and without the addition of chemical additives, which can affect the OneFlow® performance (e.g. industrial dishwashers). Avoid installation in a closed circuit (e.g. hydronic systems) and in situations with low water flow or standing water. The microcrystals continue to be active for up to 72 to 120 hours, depending on the quality of the incoming water.Avoid introducing water soluble fluxes (solder liquids) to the inside of the device or pipes.

Can I install OneFlow® myself?

Our handy connection kit makes it easy for consumers to install OneFlow® themselves. Please always following the instructions stated on the guides. You can also watch various installation videos on our website if you need help installing this system.

Or, you can, of course, also decide to have a professional install your OneFlow®.

Which OneFlow® is the best match for my consumption?

We have various types of OneFlow® systems available as this enables us to offer everyone the best possible result. The product that’s best for you depends on your consumption and family situation. Please make sure that you select a device that has sufficient capacity for your consumption.
When choosing a device, please be aware that OneFlow® should not be used in applications in which there is too much standing water. This example explains what we mean: if you live in a two-person household that uses a solar boiler of 500 litres, the water in this boiler will not flow sufficiently. In other words: the tank will never receive fully freshly-treated water within the 3 to 5 days. This means you will not gain the desired results from the OneFlow® system. If your household comprises four persons and you have a 200 litre boiler, the OneFlow® will retain its efficiency.
You should also select a OneFlow® system that has sufficient capacity for your consumption. OneFlow® needs sufficient capacity to provide each household with treated water at peak periods. So, if you have 1 standard bathroom and a family of up to 4 people, we recommend you select the OFTWH-R device. This device can filter up to 22 litres of water per minute. By a standard bathroom, we mean a bathroom with a standard point of supply, such as a shower head. An average shower uses 8 l/min. If water is also used in other places in the home, such as a washing machine, dishwasher, toilet, kitchen tap, etc, the recommended device can continue to supply treated water even during peak periods.
If you have a family of four but you have a luxury bathroom with large rain showers, or you have 2 bathrooms and live with 6 people, the OFTWH or OFPSYS would be a better choice. These devices can filter up to 38 litres of water per minute.

Is OneFlow® suitable for my home?

There’s a suitable OneFlow® model available to deal with stubborn limescale in every home, building and situation. You should bear a number of points in mind here.
It is important that there is sufficient water flow. OneFlow® technology depends, among other things, on flowing water. If there is insufficient flow, or if there is standing water, the harmless, soft limescale crystals that are formed will resume their original form again after three to five days.
You don’t need to worry about this if you’re going on holiday. As soon as water is used again, for instance, by using the kitchen tap, the OneFlow® will start treating water for you again. The water that was standing in your pipes will have been re-converted into untreated water, but this water will have been standing in your pipe system during your holidays, which means that no limescale can form.

What are the dimensions of OneFlow®?

There are various OneFlow® models. This ensures that our range can offer a solution for every situation. The dimensions also depend on the OneFlow® model. Here is a list of all the dimensions:
Model OFTWH-R (22 l/min) 18 x 18 x 60 cm

Discover quickly and easily here which OneFlow® will bring an end to stubborn limescale for you. You can find the Model that suits your consumption needs at this page.

Does OneFlow® affect the water pressure?

Every device that is installed within the water supply pipes will result in a certain drop in pressure. Of course, you don’t want the installation of a product to result in lower water pressure. That’s why we’ve worked hard to ensure that pressure loss after the OneFlow® is negligible. In short: OneFlow® hardly has any effect on the amount of water that pours from the tap. And that’s great if you’re having a shower or doing the washing up.

Does OneFlow® make a noise?

Of course you want to bring an end to stubborn limescale, but you don’t want a system that makes a lot of noise. And that’s logical because you want to be able to sleep, work or just be at home without annoying distractions. Luckily, OneFlow® doesn’t make any noise while it brings an end to stubborn limescale. So you can enjoy living in your home even more.

Can I install OneFlow® if I use well water?

The water supply to a OneFlow® should be clean. We have produced a summary of the specific water requirements: see the FAQ section: What factors should I take into account to achieve optimal OneFlow® performance?
It is possible to connect a OneFlow® to well water as long as a filter system is installed before the OneFlow®. See the experience from B&B Akemi in Zemst – Belgium

Maintenance

What are the costs of maintaining the OneFlow® limescale prevention system?

OneFlow® doesn’t need any maintenance, so there are no maintenance contract costs for this limescale prevention system. The only thing you need to do to keep your system operating perfectly is to replace the cartridge every once in a while.

The cartridge for the standard OneFlow® versions: OFTWH-R (22 l/min) and OFTWH (38 l/min) need to be replaced every two years. The larger OneFlow® tank models don’t use cartridges. The medium is dispersed in the tank. This only needs to be replaced once every three years.
The cartridge also needs to be replaced once every 3 years in the OneFlow+® (OFPSYS). However, there’s also a carbon filter in this system. This 20-micron carbon filter ensures that chorine, odours, colours and other tastes are filtered from the water. This carbon filter should be replaced once a year, depending on the quality of the incoming water.

The smaller OneFlow® version (OF110) has a cartridge that needs to be replaced once a year.

Don’t worry. You don’t need to remember when your cartridge needs replacing. If you register your OneFlow®, you’ll receive a reminder by e-mail a month in advance. This will give you plenty of time to make sure that your OneFlow® keeps on working optimally as it always did. You can decide to have your cartridge replaced by your installer, or you could choose to replace the cartridge yourself.

Why do I need to register my OneFlow®?

To guarantee that your OneFlow® continues to work at its best, it is important that you replace your cartridge in time. If you register your OneFlow®, you’ll receive a reminder by e-mail a month in advance. You can purchase the OneFlow® cartridge from your installer or technical wholesaler.
Registration is a free service as we think it is important that users of our products always stay free from stubborn limescale.

You can register your OneFlow® here.

Can I carry out my own maintenance on my OneFlow®?

OneFlow® is not a system that requires much maintenance. One of the biggest differences between OneFlow® and traditional water softeners is that with OneFlow® you don’t need a maintenance contract.
So you also don’t need to call on your manufacturer to come and configure or reconfigure the device.
The only thing you need to do to keep your system operating perfectly is to replace the cartridge every once in a while. An installer can, of course, help you easily with this, but you can also do this yourself. We recommend that you register your OneFlow® so that you’re certain that you’ll replace the cartridge in time. If you do this you won’t be faced with the stubborn limescale that would appear if you were to wait too long with replacing the cartridge.

You can register your OneFlow® here.

Can I take OneFlow® with me when I move?

It’s great that you’re so pleased with your OneFlow® and want to take the system with you to your new home or business premises. When you move home, of course you don’t want to have to purchase a new system to make sure that your drinking water is treated for limescale. Luckily, that’s also not necessary. The OneFlow® can be used without problem at your new address. This means you will benefit from all the advantages offered by this energy-efficient system, you will prevent stubborn limescale, you will have lower energy costs and your electrical appliances will last that bit longer.

General

What is water hardness and how do I know which type of water the water company supplies?

You’ll notice that you’ve got a hard water problem if white, difficult to remove stains or scale can be seen on sanitary appliances. This is known as stubborn limescale. Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine visually the damage you have in your pipes and electrical appliances, such as a boiler or combi boiler. Reduced water pressure is also a clear signal of limescale. The more limescale forms, the smaller the internal diameter of your pipes becomes. Ultimately, this means that water will flow less quickly and this will result in a loss of pressure.
If you have hard water, you’ll also notice that in your bills. Limescale makes heating elements and pipes less efficient. That’s why your energy costs increase. You can check online how hard the water supply is from your local water board. If you can’t find this information online, you can ask your installer to carry out a water test to check whether OneFlow® can offer a solution if your water is too hard.
It is important that you take action if it is clear that you have stubborn limescale. Not only will this save on your energy bills, it will also extend the service life of electrical appliances and you’ll waste less time and energy on cleaning.

What are the effects of OneFlow® on the skin?

In contrast to traditional water softeners, OneFlow® does not use any salt to remove limescale. This means that it does not change the composition of the mains water. So, water treated by OneFlow® does not affect your skin.

Is water treated by OneFlow® safe for your health?

Certainly! As OneFlow® does not add or remove anything from the water, the composition of the water remains unchanged and all vital minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain in the water.

Does OneFlow® alter the taste, colour or odour of the water?

OneFlow® does not remove any calcium and magnesium from drinking water. This means that all vital minerals remain in the water; minerals you need every day. The OneFlow+® limescale prevention & water filtration contains an integrated 20-micron carbon filter as well as the cartridge. This type does not only protect your pipes from limescale, it also ensures that your water is free from unpleasant odours and tastes. This carbon filter does not remove manganese, iron and other metals.
